The ‘Journées Arithmétiques’ (JA) is the most important conference series in Number Theory. First launched in 1960 in Grenoble, France, the bi-annual event is held in a European country, and every second meeting is organized in France. Some major results in Number Theory were first presented at JA, such as the proofs of the irrationality of zeta of 3 by Apéry, of the Iwasawa Main Conjecture by Coates and Wiles, and of the Mordell Conjecture by Faltings.

The last edition held in Nancy hosted more than 300 participants from 42 countries. Learn more about all of JA’s history here.

JA comes to Luxembourg

The University of Luxembourg will host JA from 30 June to 4 July 2025 in its Campus Belval in Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourg). This is the first time in the conference’s long history that Luxembourg has had the honour of hosting this prestigious event.

As the world’s most important conference in Number Theory, both junior and senior mathematicians will attend the in-person conference. In addition, the event is expected to attract over one hundred contributed refereed talks, many from world renowned researchers.

Registrations will open in the fall of 2024, so stay tuned!

The conference is supported by the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourgish Mathematical Society, the Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CIMPA), the Journal of Number Theory (Elsevier), the Roman Number Theory Association (RNTA), and the Société Mathématique de France (SMF).
