Prof. Jens Kreisel has an in-depth knowledge of the Luxembourg and European research landscape.

Professor Jens Kreisel as Rector of the University of Luxembourg, as of 1 January 2023. The international recruitment process leading to Professor Kreisel’s appointment opened in October 2021, following the decision of Rector Stéphane Pallage not to seek a second term as Rector of the University of Luxembourg. Rector Pallage’s term of office will end on 31 December 2022.

Prof. Jens Kreisel is currently vice-rector of the University of Luxembourg. He was born and raised in Dortmund, Germany. After studying physics in Germany and France, he obtained his PhD in materials science at the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble in 1999. His research area is at the intersection of materials-physics and -chemistry and he is internationally recognised for his expertise in optical spectroscopy. After an international career in higher education and research in Lyon and Grenoble (F), Oxford and Warwick (UK), he was awarded a PEARL (Programme Excellence Award for Research in Luxembourg) project by the Fonds National de la Recherche (FNR) in 2013 and headed the Materials Research and Technology (MRT) department at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) until his appointment as vice-rector of the University of Luxembourg in September 2018.

Jens Kreisel lives in Luxembourg with his family and has an in-depth knowledge of the Luxembourg and European research landscape.
